How to Lose Weight on a GF Diet

Happy 2012 Everyone! Sorry I was M.I.A. in December... just moved into a new place and have been getting all settled in. I hope everyone had a wonderful and delicious holiday season. :)

Well, it's that time of year yet again...we've all made our new year's resolutions...and more than likely, we'd all like to shed a few pounds :0) In my 2011 weight loss post, I talked about 5 important factors for weight loss success:
1) Eating more lean, healthy protein
2) Chowing down on veggies
3) Cutting back on sugar
4) Avoiding processed foods
5) ...and exercising!

Hopefully all of us are doing our best at these things... if we do, the weight should come off pretty easily without having to really "diet." I'd just like to add a few more things that have helped me, and hope they can help you too :-)

6) Adding anti-inflammatory foods to your diet.

This means eating more foods that are rich in omega-3 fats and anti-oxidants. Most people's diets are way too high in Omega-6 fats...we need to balance those out with more healthy fats, such as those found in Olive Oil, Avocados, and fish.

7) One of the most important factors in weight loss... is CHANGING YOUR MINDSET!

It's normal for anyone to fluctuate up and down a few pounds... but if you're losing 20 lbs, then gaining it back quickly... you need to change your eating habits.... for good! It's about a LIFESTYLE CHANGE....not a "diet!"

Instead of living to eat... think "EAT TO LIVE!" Pay attention to how you feel after you've eaten a healthy salad and some protein for lunch. Notice that you don't feel sluggish and tired like you do after you eat a high sugar, high carb meal. Notice that you are thinking more clearly, you have a more positive outlook, and that instead of wanting a nap, you want to go out and exercise or participate in a favorite activity. You should EAT so that you FEEL well enough to DO all that you want to do! Which brings me to my next point.... ;)

8) Finally, make some goals this year to TRY SOMETHING NEW!  Instead of making eating the thing you do when you're bored or emotional, substitute it with something else! Take up music lessons....try out a dance class....become more of a reader.....a writer......a painter.....take a yoga class.....learn how to scrapbook...make crafts.......get your home organized.......enjoy the outdoors more... etc, etc, etc!

My motto for 2012 is "MAKE IT HAPPEN!" This year, I wish you all the best of luck as you change your mindset, change your diet, and try new things.... Let's make 2012 our best and HEALTHIEST year yet!

♥ Christie

Thanks for another great, inspirational blog Christie! I'm really trying in 2012! No reason to gain weight when eating gluten free!

Thank you for the great info! When I was first diagnosed with Celiac disease I was so starved and hungry for anything I could find that was gluten free that it didn't matter to me if it was all that healthy so long as I "could" eat it safely, meaning not winding up in the ER. I've since put on 40 extra pounds and need to get them off. I had to give everything up at first and now that I know what is "safe" and what is not, it's going to be about eating what is right for me w/o packing on more puounds. Time to find balance and get healthier in 2012!

Thanks Pam and Candice! Yes, it should be all about eating natural, healthy foods each day... esp. fruits and veggies. And not completely depriving ourselves of a little treat now and then ;) Remember, it's about a LIFESTYLE CHANGE, NOT a diet!

Let's make it happen this year!!:) It's OUR YEAR! :)

Thanks for all of your support..xoxo Christie
